Deptt of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries notified an outbreak of avian influenza in Chingmeirong Village in East Imphal District of Manipur on 25.7.2007. The Central Rapid Response Team of Ministry of Health and F.W. deputed to Imphal is assisting the State Govt.
The health status of the cullers are being monitored. Today, 359 cullers/supportive staff have been examined and they are under cover of Tamiflu.
The population of the infected zone [0-3 Kms] are under active surveillance on daily basis. For such purpose, the State Govt. has deployed health teams consisting of 600 health personnel. In this zone the surveillance teams could cover 44,722 houses [population of 2,33,981] on 6th August, 2007. They detected 45 fever/ ARI cases some of which are follow-up of earlier cases. These cases are being monitored.
Surveillance activity is also continuing with 152 health workers in the 3 to 10 Kms zone. 5,579 houses with a population of 31,536 in Khumbong, Naoriya, Pakhanglakpa, Topkhabi, Keibi, Langthabalphuramkhong, Mongsangei, Takkhokmakha, Nandeibam leikai, Okram leikai areas have been covered. 16 cases of` fever/ARI were detected and none of them had history of having handled sick/dead birds.
Arrangements have been made in J.N. Hospital, Imphal for isolation and critical care. This is in addition to the critical care facilities available at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
Adequate supply of logistics [Tamiflu (15,000 caps), N-95 masks (1000) and personal protective gears (2000) ] have been made available to the State Government.
The situation is being closely monitored. As of now, there is no suspected human cases of Avian Influenza.
