India Today Conclave 2014 - CBI Director Ranjit Singh

Session - 'Central Bureau of Independence – Can Institutional Integrity Be Protected

'CBI was called caged parrot, vulture, bridled horse. We have lost our identity to the animal kingdom.'

CBI Director Ranjit Sinha insisted that through all ups and downs, bouquets and brickbats over the years, CBI has never compromised on its principles and core values. "Our conviction rate of more than 67 per cent is testimony to the rigour of our investigation and prosecution work," he said at a session titled 'Central Bureau of Independence – Can Institutional Integrity Be Protected?' at India Today Conclave 2014. On the issue of autonomy of CBI, he said it was never the organisation's intention to take itself out of the purview of executive. Ruing the attacks on CBI, he said, "We were called caged parrot, vulture, bridled horse. We have lost our identity to the animal kingdom." He agreed that fixing the tenure of the CBI chief will help insulate the institution from outside interference.
