JSW Steel commissions 1.3 mtpa Slab making project

JSW Steel Ltd has announced that the Company has successfully commissioned 1.3 mtpa project in the month of November 2006 increasing the Slab making capacity from 2.5 mtpa to 3.8 mtpa.

Consequent to the capacity enhancement, during the 3rd quarter FY07, the Slab production (730,274 mt) went up by 28% over corresponding quarter of previous year. The HR Coil production was also higher by 20% at 642,724 mt in Q3, FY'07 as against 533,548 mt in Q3, FY'06.

The production of Pellets (955,000 mt) and Galvanised products (200,983 mt) in Q3, FY'07 were marginally lower due to shutdown of pellet plant for capacity enhancement and change in product mix of galvanized products.

Mr. Seshagiri Rao, Director (Finance) mentioned that "the commencement of integrated production from the new 1.3 mtpa Slab making facility and stabilization of the Hot Strip Mill pursuant to modernization have resulted in increased volumes."
