Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd., the leading Indian rolling stock manufacturer, today rolled out its first driverless Made in India trainset for Ahmedabad to the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) at the company's state-of-the-art Passenger Rail Systems facility in Uttarpara, West Bengal.
The event was honoured by the presence of Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat who endorsed the programme as a pivotal enabler of Gujarat's high-velocity urban mobility agenda. The Honourable chief minister was accompanied by his principal advisor, Sri Hasmukh Adia and his advisor and managing director of Gujarat metro, Sri SS Rathod.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Bhupendrabhai Patel, Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat, said, Today is a moment of pride as the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat is being realised by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited. The workforce of Titagarh reflects India's rich diversity, with people from across the country working together as the company rolls out the new coach for Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase2 under the Hon'ble Prime Minister's visionary leadership. With the success of Make in India, infrastructure growth especially in railways has played a key role. Under the leadership of our Hon'ble PM, metro networks have expanded from 248 km to over 1,013 km, transforming India's urban mobility.

Manufactured with stainless steel car bodies, the trains offer a lightweight, highly durable, and corrosion-resistant solution while significantly improving energy efficiency and sustainability. The metro services will operate on the Yellow Line corridor from Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, spanning 23.8 km, along with the Violet Line branch from Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) to Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) and GIFT City, covering an additional 5.4 km. In total, the metro network will run across a 28.26 km elevated corridor connecting 22 stations.
The trains are equipped with the latest Train Control and Management System enabling driverless train operations. Designed with passenger comfort, safety, and ergonomics at the forefront, the trainsets include modern amenities and dedicated spaces for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) to ensure inclusive and seamless boarding and deboarding. The interiors are thoughtfully styled with a Garba-inspired theme, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and vibrant spirit of Ahmedabad.
The Honourable Chief Minister also toured the entire plant and while appreciating the work and the facilities of Titagarh, emphasised on the importance of scale and speed, a mantra given by the Honourable Prime Minister. The Honourable chief minister also noted the facilities created by Titagarh for building vande Bharat trains. Sri Umesh Chowdhary presented the future plans of Titagarh to the Honourable Chief Minister including the expansion being carried out in order to make Titagarh a leading global player in this field and also developing the capability of manufacturing high speed trains in the future.
