ABG Shipyard Ltd has announced that the Company is launching a Pollution Control Vessel (PCV) for the Indian Coast Guard. The Company which has been mandated with building three pollution Control Vessels (PCV) by Indian Coast Guard, launched the first of the series yard 221. The vessel "Samudra Prahari" is being launched by Mrs. Thrity R Contractor, wife of Vice Admiral RF Contractor, Director General, Indian Coast Guard.
About the vessel:
The Pollution Control Vessel is a 94 meter vessel with a displacement of 3300 tones and maximum draft of 4.5 meters. The vessel has a speed of 20.5 knots with a total combined propulsive power of 10640 KW available from 02 main engines and 02 shaft generators each. The vessel has a capability to recover & store 300 tons of spilled oil from sea in addition to continuously recover and transfer oil through floating barges. The vessel in addition has all the facility required to carry out other Coast Guard duties at sea. It can handle Chetak, ALH & Sea King Helicopters including stowage of Chetak Helicopter. It has a state of art feature Integrated Platform Management System for centralized monitoring and control of machineries & systems.
The PCV, a dedicated oil spill recovery vessel, is the first of its kind to be built and owned in the Asia Pacific Region. It carries various kind of portable oil recovery equipment for different kind of spilled oil in addition to fixed equipment for recovery & separation of recovered oil. Vessels are Rolls Royce Marine Design and include major machinery supply also from Rolls Royce Marine. Construction is under the classification society DNV. When first vessel is completed and delivered in next six months, it will be among the largest vessel in the fleet with the Indian Coast Guard. Subsequent two vessels are to be completed and delivered thereafter with interval of six months each.
