Hon'ble High Court, Mumbai rejects PAL VRS employees demand for unjustified compensation

Premier Ltd announced that the Hon'ble High Court, Bombay has set aside the Order passed by the Industrial Tribunal in respect of the demand raised by PAL VRS Employees Welfare Association for payment of benefit of the allowances as per the terms of the Settlement signed between the Company and Dr Datta Samant led Association of Engineering Workers Union in 1994 for the period subsequent to opting of VRS. The Court ruled in favour of the Company in a Writ Petition filed by the Company challenging the Order of the Industrial Tribunal which had upheld the demand of VRS employees.

Hon'ble Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud of the Bombay High Court in his Judgment did not find any merit in the claims raised by PAL VRS Employees Welfare Association. In fact, the same demand had also been earlier rejected by the Hon'ble High Court, Bombay, vide Order dated October 03, 2001.

Whilst, the Hon'ble Bombay High Court has allowed the plea of the Association to file a fresh reference before the appropriate forum, according to the legal experts, the matter for all practical purposes is over.
