Tata Metaliks Ltd has announced that one of the two blast furnaces (MBF#1) at the Kharagpur plant of the Company had been shut down for relining for more than a month now. The same is ready for operations and it is expected that the blowing in will take place on December 04, 2006. The estimated cost for such relining had been Rs 17 crores (approx) Since relining, the capacity of the furnace has been enhanced to 185,000 tonnes (approx.) of hot metal/annum. It also enhanced the plant capability by planned higher campaign life while also providing for other interventions in the near future for cost reduction.
Meanwhile, the Company has been able to achieve another milestone as far as the logistics problems at its Redi plant are concerned. The Sawantawadi Railway Siding is ready for use for its plant located in Maharashtra. For this projects the Company entered into an arrangement with the Konkan Railway authorities, which has done a good job, given the time frame of the project. This siding will facilitate easier & faster off-loading of raw materials at the plant site as also the despatch of finished product and bringing it closer to the plant. This preferential transport facility from Konkan Railways shall be available to the Company for the coming 10 years. The Company has incurred a cost of Rs 3.5 crores (approx) for this project. This railway siding will help in reducing the logistic cost.
