M&B Engineering Approves ₹30 Crore Heavy Structural Steel Expansion at Sanand Plant to Capitalize on Data Center and High-Rise Surge

Engineering-led construction firm M&B Engineering Limited (NSE: MBEL | BSE: 544470) has announced a brownfield expansion plan to boost its heavy structural steel manufacturing capabilities at its Sanand plant under the Phenix Division.

The strategic initiative was formally approved by the company's Board of Directors during its meeting held on August 10, 2026.

Key Details of the Expansion Project

Capacity Addition: The company will add 10,000 MTPA (Metric Tonnes Per Annum) of heavy structural steel capacity at its Sanand facility. This will expand the current heavy structural steel line beyond its existing capacity of 12,000 MTPA (which forms part of the Sanand plant's total capacity of 72,000 TPA).

Current Capacity Utilization: The existing heavy structural steel capacity operates at an estimated utilization rate of 75% to 78%.

Investment & Funding: The expansion involves an estimated investment of approximately ₹30 crore, which will be financed through a mix of term loans and internal accruals.

Expected Timeline: The new capacity is scheduled for commercial commissioning by the first quarter of Financial Year 2027-28 (Q1 FY28).

Strategic Rationale & Market Opportunities

M&B Engineering's expansion directly aligns with emerging high-growth infrastructure sub-sectors in India, specifically data centers and modern high-rise commercial structures.

Data Center Demand: India's rapid data center expansion presents a $12 billion to $14 billion addressable market for steel-intensive construction over the next five years, backed by approximately $60 billion to $70 billion in announced investments.

High-Rise Construction Shift: Real estate developers are increasingly moving toward structural steel to accelerate project timelines while maintaining high load-bearing strength, safety, and scalability.

End-to-End Solutions: These specialized projects demand a hybrid construction methodology combining Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) systems with heavy structural steel. Expanding its heavy structural steel setup complements M&B Engineering's existing PEB capabilities, enabling the company to offer integrated, end-to-end structural solutions across complex industrial and commercial applications.
