Leading private life insurer SBI Life Insurance Company Limited announced its reviewed financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1 FY27). Driven by expansion in individual business premiums and strong operational efficiencies, the insurer posted a 22% year-on-year (YoY) increase in Profit After Tax (PAT), along with substantial double-digit growth across key embedded value and profitability metrics.
SBI Life maintained its market leadership in the private life insurance domain, securing a 22.2% private market share in Individual Rated Premium (IRP) and 24.9% in Individual New Business Premium during the quarter.
Key Financial Highlights: Q1 FY27 vs Q1 FY26
Profit After Tax (PAT): Grew 22% YoY to ₹7.2 billion (₹720 crore), up from ₹5.9 billion recorded in Q1 FY26.
Annualized Premium Equivalent (APE): Surged 36% YoY to ₹53.8 billion (₹5,380 crore), compared to ₹39.7 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
New Business Premium (NBP): Stood at ₹89.1 billion, reflecting a 23% YoY increase over ₹72.7 billion in Q1 FY26.
Gross Written Premium (GWP): Expanded 20% YoY to ₹212.9 billion, driven by strong expansion across both NBP and Renewal Premium (RP), which grew 17% to ₹123.8 billion.
Total New Business Sum Assured: Jumped by 211% YoY to ₹8,500.3 billion.
Net Worth: Rose 13% YoY to ₹201.1 billion as of June 30, 2026, compared to ₹178.3 billion in the previous year.
Solvency Ratio: Stood at 1.96, comfortably exceeding the statutory requirement of 1.50 and demonstrating the company's strong capital position.
Embedded Value & Value of New Business (VoNB)
Value of New Business (VoNB): Reached ₹14.1 billion, representing a 29% YoY growth compared to ₹10.9 billion in Q1 FY26. Per-share VoNB expanded to ₹14.0 per share from ₹10.9.
VoNB Margin: Stood at 26.2% for Q1 FY27, compared to 27.4% in Q1 FY26.
Indian Embedded Value (IEV): Increased 15% YoY to ₹852.9 billion, compared to ₹742.6 billion as of June 30, 2025. This equates to an IEV per share of ₹850.2 (up from ₹740.8).
Return on Equity (RoE): Improved to 14.8% from 13.7% in Q1 FY26.
Business & Distribution Channel Mix
The insurer's growth was supported by a widespread distribution framework comprising 371,935 trained insurance professionals and 1,241 offices across India.

Others (Direct, Brokers, Web Aggregators, IMF): 28% (up from 15% in Q1 FY26) - Individual NBP from other channels jumped 25% to ₹10.3 billion.
Cost Structure & Persistency Gains
Total Cost Ratio: Increased to 12.0% in Q1 FY27 compared to 10.8% in Q1 FY26.
Commission Ratio: Remained flat YoY at 4.4%.
Operating Expense Ratio: Stood at 7.7%, compared to 6.3% in Q1 FY26.
Persistency Metrics (Premium Basis):
13th Month Persistency: Improved by 61 bps to 87.7% (vs 87.1% in Q1 FY26).
25th Month Persistency: Rose to 78.2% (vs 77.5%).
37th Month Persistency: Reached 72.4% (vs 72.0%).
49th Month Persistency: Improved by 68 bps to 69.1% (vs 68.4%).
61st Month Persistency: Came in at 58.4% (vs 63.6%).
Assets Under Management (AuM)
SBI Life's total Assets Under Management (AuM) crossed the ₹5 trillion mark, expanding 10% YoY to ₹5,248.5 billion (₹5.25 trillion) as of June 30, 2026, up from ₹4,758.1 billion as of June 30, 2025.
The portfolio maintains a conservative debt-to-equity ratio of 60:40, with approximately 94% of fixed-income assets invested in AAA-rated and Sovereign securities.

All product segments recorded growth on an Individual Rated Premium basis, and all key distribution channels achieved double-digit expansion. The increasing contribution from protection solutions and guaranteed non-par savings products reflects evolving customer preferences and our strategic focus.
Renewal premium growth, along with improvements in the 13th- and 49th-month persistency ratios, underscores the strengthening of our customer relationships and the overall quality of our business.
