Tata Motors Limited (formerly TML Commercial Vehicles Limited) has reported a strong performance for the first month of the new financial year, recording a 28% year-on-year growth in total commercial vehicle sales. The company's combined domestic and international sales for April 2026 reached 34,833 units, up from 27,221 units in the same period last year.
The results, disclosed in a regulatory filing by Company Secretary Sudipto Kumar Das, highlight significant gains across all major product categories, signaling healthy momentum in the industrial and transport sectors.
Domestic Segment Performance
Total domestic sales for the month reached 32,965 units, marking a 27.9% increase over April 2025. The growth was distributed across several key segments:
SCV Cargo and Pickup: This category emerged as the strongest performer in terms of volume and growth, jumping 40.2% to 12,799 units.
HCV Trucks: Heavy Commercial Vehicle sales rose by 23.4%, totaling 8,969 units.
Passenger Carriers: Sales of buses and passenger transport vehicles grew by 22.6%, with 5,743 units sold.
ILMCV Trucks: Intermediate, Light, and Medium Commercial Vehicles recorded a 16.5% increase, reaching 5,454 units.
The combined Domestic sales for MH&ICV (Medium, Heavy, and Intermediate Commercial Vehicles) stood at 14,565 units, compared to 12,093 units in the prior year.
The company's international business also saw a mirrored growth trajectory, with exports rising 28.2% to 1,868 units. When integrating global markets, the total MH&ICV volume reached 15,403 units for the month.
This performance comes as the company operates under its new name, Tata Motors Limited, following a Composite Scheme of Arrangement that became effective in late 2025. As India's largest manufacturer of trucks and buses, the company's April figures serve as a positive indicator for the broader commercial mobility landscape in the 2026-27 fiscal year.
