Coal India Announces Provisional Production and Off-take Performance for April 2026

Coal India Limited (CIL), the Maharatna public sector undertaking, has released its provisional operational performance data for the first month of the 2026-27 fiscal year. In a regulatory filing submitted to the BSE and National Stock Exchange, the company reported a year-on-year decline in both coal production and off-take for April 2026.

Production Trends

Total coal production for CIL in April 2026 stood at 56.1 Million Tonnes (Mill Te), representing a 9.7% decrease compared to the 62.1 Mill Te produced during the same period last year.

Performance across CIL's subsidiaries was mixed:

SECL showed resilience with a 9.3% growth in production, reaching 15.3 Mill Te.

BCCL and NEC saw significant contractions, with production falling by 41.3% and 60.0% respectively.

MCL, typically a high-volume contributor, saw a 13.9% dip to 13.8 Mill Te.

CCL remained largely stable with a marginal growth of 0.8%.

Off-take Performance

The off-take figures-representing the volume of coal supplied to consumers-totaled 63.2 Mill Te in April 2026. This reflects a slight 2.0% decrease from the 64.5 Mill Te recorded in April 2025.

Notably, off-take outperformed production in absolute volume during the month. Key subsidiary performances in off-take included:

MCL recorded the highest growth in supplies, increasing by 7.2% to 18.1 Mill Te.

ECL and SECL also posted positive gains of 4.6% and 4.1% respectively.

BCCL experienced the sharpest decline in off-take, falling 26.7% year-on-year.

Shares of Coal India Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 481.35 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 479.65. The total number of shares traded during the day was 1188323 in over 13678 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 490.90 and intraday low of 478.60. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 575156399.00.
