Zappfresh (DSM Fresh Foods Ltd.), a listed fresh and frozen food company, has signed an MoU with a farm operator in Ghaziabad as part of its strategy to strengthen backward integration and build a more reliable sourcing ecosystem. The partnership will enable Zappfresh to directly procure fish from aquaculture farms spread across approximately 50 acres in Village Masurie, Ghaziabad, improving control over quality, traceability, and supply consistency, while supporting growing demand for safe, hygienic, and high-quality foodproducts.
The objective behind this collaboration is to create a structured farm-to-fork model that ensures transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability in sourcing. By working closely with farmlevel partners, Zappfresh aims to standardise quality, improve vield, and build a dependable supply network, while also strengthening supply reliability, reducing sourcing volatility, and driving operational efficiencies through greater control over procurement.
Deepanshu Manchanda, Managing Director, Zappfresh, said, "Fish & seafood is already a meaningful part of our business, and we see it becoming significantly larger over time. The challenge in this category is not demand, it's supply consistency. By strengthening our presence atthe farm level, we are solving for exactly that. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to move fish & seafood contribution from ~20% towards ~30% of our portfolio, while building better control over quality, pricing, and supply. Over time, this level of integration will define the difference between a trading business and a scaled, high-quality food platform."
As part of the MoU, Zappfresh will provide demand visibility and assured offtake, along with support for branding, traceability, and quality standardisation at the farm level. The farm will be integrated into Zappfresh''s processing, cold chain, and distribution network, enabling efficient movement of produce from farm to market. The company will also provide technical inputs to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
The collaboration will also focus on maintaining proper farming practices, production records, and regular quality monitoring, creating a stable and scalable sourcing model. With this partnership, Zappfresh continues to strengthen its focus on backward integration and supply chain reliability. The company plans to expandsimilar collaborations across key sourcing regions to deepen its farm-level presence and build a scalable, transparent sourcing network. As demand for high-quality, traceable food products grows, such initiatives are expected to playan important role in the evolution of India's organised food ecosystem.
