On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at approximately 9:15 A.M., with incessant rains the 110KV line tripped along with power transformer (PTR-1) on under voltage.
The same was consulted with the 110KV substation on voltage fluctuation. On receiving the report of normalcy of voltage at the substation the PTR-1 was charged again at 9:30 A.M. The transformer tripped again on earth fault.
The isolator of PTR-1 was opened for inspection on earth fault. The inspection was undertaken across equipment from the isolator to the transformer bushings. The equipment were in order without any signs of any flashover or any heat generation. The PTR-1 was charged again at 10:30 A.M. The PTR-1 tripped, again, on account of High Set Overcurrent. The substation was consulted again for load variation records. The records showed variation in Y-Phase of PTR-1. The PTR-2 was charged to check the line fault on no-load, which proved stable. The same check was undertaken on PTR-1 at 2:30 P.M which tripped the PTR-1 outgoing breaker. The buchholz relay operated on PTR-1. No further charging of PTR-1 was undertaken.
The oil sample was sent for analysis and a testing team was called. The testing team arrived on August 21, 2025 undertook series of tests. The test report suggested that Y-phase winding on Low Voltage side of the Transformer has issues. The oil report received, also suggested accumulation of gas that was a result of the fault in the PTR-1.
It was decided to drain out the oil from transformer (15,400 litres of oil quantity) and visually inspect the winding by opening inspection windows of transformer body, but due to incessant rains the work was stopped. The drain process has started again on August 22, 2025.
The damage caused to the Transformer is adequately covered by the insurance. The Company also holds a comprehensive IAR Policy with a sum insured of Rs. 313.17 crores for material damage + Rs. 38.36 crores for Business Interruption through an insurance provider.
Of 40 MW installed capacity, 50% (20MW) power generation is affected due to this incident. The estimated impact will be announced in due course.
