Sterlite BEND-LITE Fiber enhanced for G.657A Compliance

Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd, on April 19, 2007 has announced that its BEND-LITETM Single Mode Optical Fiber has been enhanced to comply with the ITU Recommendation G.652D & G.657A (Release: December 2006) and the IEC 60793-2-50 type B 1.3 Optical Fiber Specification. Sterlite BEND-LITETM has been tested and certified as per the European Union RoHS Directive.

Bend insensitivity of Sterlite BEND-LITETM Optical Fiber is beneficial for use in Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) applications and is an ideal choice for Triple-Play (voice, video and data) Service networks and CATV networks. Sterlite BEND LITETM Fiber supports installation with low cable bending radii for cable mounting Inside buildings. It reduces bend radius capabilities, enabling tighter routing, higher fiber density for component design and deployment of fiber in central offices, subscriber equipment, back-plane solutions, and premise wiring.

Sterlite BEND LITETM Fiber introduces high resistance to additional losses due to macro bending at 1550 and 1625nm wavelength region and exceeds G.657A standard. As a standard single mode fiber, BEND-LITETMis fully compatible with other standard single mode fibers complying with ITU-T G.652 A, B, C, D Standards, thus ensuring excellent splicing performance and compatibility with legacy networks.

The Company's core strength lies in its high technology perform manufacture and high-speed fiber drawing processes. The Company is among the select integrated manufacturers of optical fibers globally. With robust IGI systems, Six-Sigma approach and ERP systems, traceability from Raw Material to Finished Product stage, is intrinsic to the Company.

Says Mr. Pankaj Khanna - COO (Telecom), of the Company, "The global demand of optical fiber in 2006 was close to what was last seen in Yr 2000, during the Telecom Boom. The industry has entered a very buoyant phase and new telecom standards are being introduced for new network applications. With the technological edge that Sterlite Optical Technologies has, by virtue of being a fully integrated optical fiber manufacturer, we believe that we are equipped to effectively address the exciting times ahead for the Telecom industry."
