Bharat Coking Coal Limited - Stoppage of Mining Operations at ABOCP Mine

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has officially notified the stock exchanges regarding a significant disruption at its ABOCP Mine under the Block-II Area. In a regulatory filing dated April 3, 2026, the company reported that coal mining and dispatch operations have been illegally halted by unorganized groups since March 2, 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM.

Core Issues and Background

The disruption stems from ongoing labor disputes involving local workers previously engaged by transport contractors for manual shale picking and segregation at railway sidings.

Technological Shift: The company highlighted that the shift toward mandatory coal crushing in outsourced production has made manual shale-picking largely obsolete.

Reduced Departmental Output: Drastic reductions in departmental production have further limited the scope to accommodate the existing workforce.

Wage Disputes: Under a 2020 agreement with local administration, workers were engaged for only 4-5 days per month and paid High Power Committee (HPC) wages for those days. However, the workers are now demanding full-time HPC wages and additional benefits, leading to the current blockade.

Company Actions and Legal Measures

To resolve the impasse and restore operations, BCCL has initiated several legal and administrative steps:

Security Notifications: Formal letters have been sent to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dhanbad, and the DIG (CISF) to intervene and provide security.

Police Action: An FIR (First Information Report) has been officially lodged at the Baghmara Police Station against the unauthorized stoppage.

Internal Reporting: The matter has been escalated to the Head of Department (Industrial Relations) and the Director (HR) at BCCL Headquarters.

The company is closely monitoring the situation to minimize the impact on coal production and dispatch schedules.

Shares of Bharat Coking Coal Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 32.09 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 32.08. The total number of shares traded during the day was 1031182 in over 4431 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 32.33 and intraday low of 30.90. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 32687541.00.
