PMI recognizes Excellence in Project Management in India, awards given to RIL, NSE and NABARD

- Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession recently honored organizations in recognition for their significant contributions to industry and for achievements in the project management profession.

Bengaluru - November 16, 2009: Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession recently honored organizations in recognition for their significant contributions to industry and for achievements in the project management profession. PMI India presented the PMI India Project Management Awards Program at its first-ever National Conference on November 14, 2009 in Hyderabad. The PMI India Project Management Awards Program will annually recognize individuals, groups and organizations for having effectively applied project management principles and techniques.

Speaking at this pioneering awards ceremony, Mr Raj Kalady, Managing Director, PMI India said, "The PMI India Project Management Awards Program recognizes excellence in project management across a broad array of categories for organizations, individuals and community advancement. PMI's commitment to honoring exceptional achievement is demonstrated through these Awards, which recognize those who set the highest standards of performance in the field of project management. Winning this award is a testament to the value the profession brings to the industry and to the growing Indian economy"

The following awards were presented at the Project Management Conference in Hyderabad, India on November 14, 2009 by Mr Ganesh Natrajan, Vice Chairman & CEO, Zensar Technologies:

* Best Project of the Year - 2009 was given to Reliance Industries Limited for the KG D6 Deepwater (D1/D3) Gas Field Development Project. This first deepwater development in India, was awarded for successful implementation of high technology, which is at par with the best performance benchmarks in the world. This multibillion dollar mega investment project by Reliance Industries Limited was executed despite constraints like tight market conditions, scarcity of rigs, installation vessels and skilled manpower in addition to complex logistics. The development of D1/D3 gas fields in KG D6 block is one of the fastest Greenfield deepwater developments. The award was jointly received by Mr Naresh Narang, Sr. Vice President (Development Projects), Petroleum E&P and Mr K. Sudarsana Rao, Vice President (Projects & Development), Petroleum E&P.

* Best Project of the Year Award - 2009 Runner-up was given to the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) for its Nationwide Network (N cubed - N3) project. As an endeavor to further enhance the trading experience and to provide value added services to the members, NSE embarked upon a project to deploy a robust and secure private IP network. The implementation of this network has enabled several new business capabilities for NSE and can now provide a richer Market Data broadcast that will have an instant visibility for liquidity in the market. PMI India has honored NSE with the Runner-up award for being a reliable, new and first of its kind systematic and test-driven execution of the project. Mr Sudhir Sawant, Sr. Manager-PMO and Mr Nitin Gupte, Project Manager, N-Cubed were present to receive this award.

* Jury Award for the Contribution to Community - 2009 was given to the Indo-German Watershed Development Programme (IGWDP), Rajasthan Regional Office, NABARD. IGWDP was honored with the Jury Award for the Contribution to the Community for their sustained performance by applying project management principles to the pro bono service that improved the livelihoods of the rural poor. This project rehabilitated the highly degraded natural production base in the south-eastern parts of Rajasthan (Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh districts). The purpose of the programme is to stabilize agricultural and livestock production in at least 30 watersheds with a total of approximately 30,000 hectares. The programme is also aimed at rehabilitation of pasture land, livelihood development and sustainable rehabilitation of natural resources. Mr. K. Muralidhara Rao, Chief General Manager, Rajasthan Regional Office, NABARD and Mr B. K. Singhal, Assistant General Manager, Program Development Unit, IGWDP, NABARD were presented with this award.

Recognizing the need for skilled project managers, PMI has hosted the first Project Management Conference that has brought together over 600 project management stakeholders from around India to discuss and debate the key challenges for projects in India. The Conference theme - "Unleashing the Power of Project Management for a Better Tomorrow" aims to provide an umbrella forum to recognize the impact and success of Project Management.

The Conference provides a major platform for knowledge sharing and networking with experts from around the globe, who have confirmed their participation to chair the panels, open forums and give presentations. Some of the eminent speakers include, Mr Jagdish Khattar, CMD Carnation Auto India Pvt. Ltd. and former MD, Maruti Udyog Ltd, Mr Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, Mr. Peter Monkhouse, Director, PMI and Mr. Steve Fahrenkrog, Vice President, Regional Development, PMI.
