NIIT to prepare 'Job-ready Engineers' for the IT Industry

NIIT Ltd has announced that the Company has launched 'Integrated ANIIT for Engineers' (IAE) - a 5-semester IT curriculum for engineering students. A dual-qualification program to be pursued alongside engineering studies, IAE will open up a new stream to prepare IT professionals.

As per industry estimates, nearly two-thirds of 300,000 engineers passing out of colleges in India, every year, need re-skilling to be readied for demanding IT jobs.

According to Mr. Vijay K Thadani, Chief Executive Officer of the Company "The new initiative of integrating our IT curriculum into the learning offered to India's engineering graduates, while they are still at college, will greatly improve their IT readiness. Availability of relevantly skilled IT manpower, will, in turn, fuel the growth of the industry."

The Company is launching the new program, initia1ly in the southern cities of Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. South India produces 54 per cent of the engineers in the country and also offers a huge job opportunity for these students.

Launching the new program in the city, Mr. C Raghavan, President of the Company's Learning Business said, "The new IAE curriculum comprehensively addresses four critical areas for engineering students, to make them job-ready - that of new technology schilling, curriculum support, global certification and placement assistance."

"By enhancing IT skills and employment readiness of engineering students, NIIT will not only help the IT industry by increasing the talent availability but also by reducing their in-house training requirement", he added.

Leaders from top IT employers such as Cognizant, Polaris, RAMCO Systems, Satyam, Sun Microsystems and TCS highlighted the shortage of skilled manpower in the Industry. Industry leaders and academicians supported the Company's new initiative aimed at making large number of engineers readily employable by the IT industry. Mind Champion and the Company Brand Ambassador Viswanathan Anand along with his wife Aruna echoed the support to the Company's new initiative, by making a special appearance at the launch ceremony.

The Integrated ANIIT Program for Engineers begins with the fundamentals of computing and IT and spans a comprehensive learning cycle across programming and database management. This program has specialization options in the most popular application development frameworks such as Java and .NET. Additionally, this program trains students on communication, time-management and behavioral skills, to make them industry-ready. The all round training enables them to contribute right from the day they join the job.

IAE is the latest addition to the suite of programs offered by the Company for engineers, under the 'Edgeineers' series Several thousands of the Company's students of Edgeineers as well as the 13-year old flagship GNIIT program have been employed by the IT industry including the top majors.

This path-breaking initiative from training pioneer, the Company, is a tribute to the industry, on the occasion of the Company’s 25th anniversary.
