The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 1st May - 10th May 2009 were Rs. 2207.96 crore compared to Rs. 2156.63 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 2.38 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1474.94 crore during 1st May - 10th May 2008 to Rs. 1500.00 crore during 1st May - 10th May 2009, showing an increase of 1.70 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th May 2009 were Rs. 629.44 crore compared to Rs. 610.50 crore during the same period last year, reflecting a increase of 3.10 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 63.09 crore during this period compared to Rs. 56.86 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 10.95 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th May 2009 were 201.10 million compared to 194.32 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.49 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 1-10 May 2009 were 100.57 million and 100.53 million compared to 103.47 million and 90.85 million during the same period last year, registering a decrease of 2.80 per cent and an increase of 10.65 per cent respectively.
