Mumbai 5th April 2009: Khushi – For Your Child today organized an Autism Awareness drive by having a concert, where Autistic kids performed on stage and showed that they were second to none.
This event is part of Khushi – For Your Child's effort to promote greater understanding about autism. This year's observance is being marked with lectures, briefings, musical performances, art installations and other activities carried by autistic kids, their parents and professionals.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Reena Singh Varadkar said, “These events will do a great deal to foster a sense of tolerance and understanding, something families affected by autism desperately need as they face the many day-to-day challenges posed by this disorder."
Autism affects one in 150 children in this country and yet remains a mystery for far too many people. Autism is one of five 'Pervasive Developmental Disorders'. It usually manifests as problems that involve communication skills, social interaction and thought and behavior.
In Autism, there is an uneven skill development. It is part of a group of disorders known as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). People with ASD have problems with social and communication skills. Many people with ASD also have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, or reacting to sensations. In most cases its causes are unknown.
It is our goal to assure that no child is left untreated. Working together with the parents and all caregivers we strive to ensure Khushi – For Your Child
