To strengthen the friendly relations between Canada and India and acknowledging the importance of cooperation in addressing global challenges related to energy transition and sustainability; a collaboration framework was signed between the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), a not-for-profit energy research company of the Province of Saskatchewan of Canada and Oil India Limited (OIL) a Maharatna CPSE under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt of India, in the fields of CO2 Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), Geothermal, development of Clean Energy Technologies and research interests with mc2+ for start ups, a platform created under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, on the sidelines of the Global Energy Show 2026 on 10th June 2026 at Calgary.
The event was attended by The Premier of Saskatchewan Hon'ble Scott Moe, His Excellency the High Commissioner of India to Canada, CEO of PTRC, CMD of OIL, and other senior officials. The domains of collaborations include the following:
a. Utilization of captured CO2, both related to permanent storage through geological sequestration and mineralization in geological formations.
b. Innovative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods to help lessen the environmental impacts and energy use of oil/gas production.
c. Working with established networks and partners specific to each of OIL and PTRC to identify business opportunities in both countries.
d. Identification of potential geothermal projects of mutual interest to study and participate.
e. Collaborative research by both OIL and PTRC's Energy Innovation Hub lab on projects involving subsurface energy production and sub surface storage.
f. Collaborative research interests with mc2+ for start ups, a platform created under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.
