Ashok Leyland Reports 9% Growth in Total Sales for April 2026

Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group and a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has reported a steady start to the 2026-27 financial year. The company announced total sales (Domestic + Exports) of 14,646 units for April 2026, marking a 9% increase over the 13,421 units sold in the same month last year.

The performance was highlighted by strong double-digit growth in the truck and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments, which helped offset a slowdown in the bus category.

Domestic Sales Performance

The domestic market remained the primary driver of volume, growing by 14% year-on-year:

M&HCV Trucks: Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle trucks saw a robust 15% growth, with 6,814 units sold compared to 5,915 units in April 2025.

LCV Segment: Light Commercial Vehicles performed exceptionally well, jumping 23% to reach 6,265 units.

M&HCV Bus: The domestic bus segment faced a contraction, with sales falling 22% to 1,163 units.

Total Domestic: Combined domestic sales stood at 14,242 units, up from 12,509 units in the previous year.

Consolidated Sales (Domestic + Exports)

When accounting for international shipments, the overall sales trajectory remained positive, despite a sharper decline in global bus demand:

Trucks (M&HCV): Total truck sales rose 15% to 7,007 units, reflecting healthy demand for logistics and infrastructure-related hauling.

Buses (M&HCV): Total bus sales (Domestic + Exports) declined by 30%, dropping to 1,295 units from 1,841 units in the prior year.

LCV: Combined LCV sales grew by 16% to 6,344 units.

Summary and Outlook

The April 2026 figures underscore a resilient demand for freight-carrying vehicles in the Indian market. While the Light Commercial Vehicle segment continues to show high-growth momentum, the Medium and Heavy Truck segment remains a stable pillar for the company.

While export-specific bus demand was particularly soft during the month, the overall 9% growth in total vehicle sales provides a solid foundation for the new fiscal year. The company continues to monitor market dynamics across its diverse commercial vehicle portfolio to maintain this growth trajectory.
