AOS, Kaynes Semicon, and Mitsui Join Forces to Deliver India's First Manufactured IPM Multi-Chip Module from Sanand

Kaynes Semicon Private Limited (wholly owned subsidiary Company of Kaynes Technology India Limited) proudly announces a landmark achievement in India's semiconductor journey with the rollout and shipment of 900 Multi‑Chip Modules (MCMs) - the Intelligent Power Module (IPM5) - assembled, tested, and quality‑cleared at the company's world‑class OSAT facility in Sanand on Wednesday, 15th October 2025. This milestone marks India's first commercially manufactured MCM, realized under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0 and delivered to Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS), a global leader in power semiconductors based in Sunnyvale, USA.

India's first commercially packaged multi-chip module (MCM) under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0 rolled out of the Kaynes Semicon OSAT facility in Sanand in the early hours of Wednesday and was delivered to Sunnyvale-headquartered Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS), a designer, developer, and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors. Around 900 parts of the IPM were sent to AOS today. The IPM module, or Intelligent Power Module, is a semiconductor device that integrates power switching elements (such as IGBTs) with their corresponding drive and protection circuits into a single, compact package to simplify motor control and other power applications. The company CEO described this as a one-of-its-kind module, featuring 17 dies inside, including Six IGBTs, Two controller IC, Six FRD and Three Diodes. German chip company Infineon is a market leader in this space.

Kaynes Semicon's Sanand facility is designed to reach a total capacity of 6.3 million chips per day once fully operational. This delivery marks the start of commercial production for AOS, with full mass production aimed for January 2026. AOS is expected to occupy majority of the initial capacity, with production ramping up to about 1.5 million chips per day by Q1 2026-27.

This successful delivery highlights Kaynes Semicon's robust manufacturing capabilities, their ability to meet stringent quality standards, and the scale potential of their Sanand OSAT facility. The achievement is a significant step in India's semiconductor sector, showcasing the capacity to produce highly integrated, sophisticated power modules domestically while supporting global semiconductor leaders like AOS.

IPM: India's Advanced Power Module for Global Applications

The IPM5 module integrates 15 semiconductor dies into a compact, high-performance package designed for industrial and household equipment. Built around Power ICs, IGBTs, FRDs, and Diodes, this multi-chip design delivers exceptional reliability, thermal stability, and power efficiency across motor control, inverter, and energy-saving consumer systems. The 900-unit shipment represents the first successful production lot, validating Indian capabilities in assembling high-complexity multi-die modules that previously required full international supply chain dependence.

The IPM rollout marks more than a manufacturing milestone - it symbolizes India's transition from design participation to advanced semiconductor packaging leadership. With this achievement, Kaynes Semicon positions itself as a key enabler of India's ambition to become a reliable, globally competitive OSAT hub serving industries from automotive and industrial automation to consumer electronics and clean energy systems.
