In its endeavour to support the nation in the current scenario, IndiGo operated an international CarGo flight, on the Kolkata - Guangzhou - Kolkata route on May 16, 2020. Flight 6E 1377 carried CarGo consisting of medical supplies like face masks and GCRs, from Guangzhou to Kolkata in 'freighter mode'. The flights were operated while observing all precautionary measures.
Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, "We have been successfully using our A-320 passenger aircraft in a 'freighter mode' helping maintain and support supply chains in and out of the country at this critical time. Having previously operated these CarGo flights to the Gulf region, South and Southeast Asia, we have now operated these flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou. IndiGo will continue to extend its support in this time of need, be it through CarGo flights or repatriation flights, as directed by the government. IndiGo continues to contribute and adapt its business to the needs of the hour".
Mr Dutta further added, "We are grateful to the government for allowing to carry cargo in the cabin, which has enabled these operations during the lockdown period."
