Siemens Ltd has announced that Siemens VAI along with Siemens Ltd has received an order from Jindal Stainless Ltd. (JSL), for a completely new hot strip rolling mill at its Greenfield project in Orissa. The order includes the plant layout, the mechanical equipment, the drives as well as the entire basic and process automation. Production is scheduled to start in 2009.
Jindal Stainless Ltd. (JSL), is one of the leading producers of stainless steel in India. As a part of its expansion program, Jindal Stainless, which already operates a stainless steel plant in Hisar, Haryana, has decided to build a new 1.800 mm wide hot strip mill to be located in Kalinganagar Durubi, Orissa. The plant will be designed for an annual production of 1.6 million tonnes in the first project phase and will produce austenitic and ferritic stainless steel strips including a minor quantity of plates. In the subsequent project phase, the plant can be upgraded to produce 3.2 mtpa by installing a second reheating furnace, a seventh mill stand and a second down coiler.
The scope of Siemens will be to equip the new mill with the latest state-of-the-art equipment such as hydraulic edger, HAGC in all mill stands, flatness control and Siemens' new laminar cooling model. On commissioning, this stainless steel plant will have one of the most sophisticated hot-strip mills in the country.
Siemens will also provide customer training, monitor installation of all the supplied components and systems as well as commission the installation, including fine adjustment of the technological models and control systems.
