To fight and curb the waste management practices in the city, Namma Bengaluru Foundation in association with Radio Indigo 91.9 organized Namma Swachh Koramangala Abhiyan, a recurring sustainable campaign in Koramangala on May 7, 2015. The drive kicked off at 11 am and went on till 1 pm in the 1st Main Road, Behind Raheja Arcade, Koramangala 5th Block. Present at the occasion were Mr. Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO, Namma Bengaluru Foundation along with local volunteers and workers.
This campaign encompassed identifying waste management deficiencies and doing specific interventions to improve the overall cleanliness of Koramangala. This launch was the third of the six events that will be spread over the next 12 months and will look into periodic waste removal, facilitating development of pedestrian-friendly footpaths, removal of illegal hoardings and landscaping of ill kept open spaces. Through these series of cleanliness campaigns the larger vision is to instill a sense of ownership, participation and sustainability in the neighborhood.
"We initiated this cleanliness drive to encourage community participation which must begin at home. Cleanliness has been one of the major concerns in the city and needs to be addressed immediately with participation from organizations and the general public. We hope more organisations take heed and clean the city part by part. More than the corporates its local community which should take it up on themselves to bring about the change they wish to see", said Mr. Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO, Namma Bengaluru Foundation.
