              The Government of India, on the basis of press reports and a report of proceedings of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States of America, understands that the Dow Chemicals Company reportedly made numerous improper payments to Indian Government officials at the State and Federal level to register and market several agro chemical products, during 1996-2001, through subsidiary De-Nocil Crop Protection Ltd. The Government of India has ordered an enquiry into these allegations along with review of registrations undertaken by the Company during this period.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs Shri B.K. Handique in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today. He said no penalty has been paid by Dow Chemicals of U.S.A. to Indian Pesticide Regulators.
