International Award Instituted in Memory of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore

The Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee has announced that an international award with a prize money of Rs. One crore will be instituted for promoting values of Universal Brotherhood in the memory of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Presenting the Union Budget 2011-12 in the Lok Sabha today, Shri Mukherjee said that national celebrations of 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore would commence from 7th May this year in New Delhi and important events would be held in several countries in Europe, America and Asia.

A series of events are also proposed to be organized under the aegis of joint India-Bangaldesh Celebrations Committee, the Minister informed.
