Sensex and NIFTY close lower on subdued trading

Trading in BSE Sensex and NSE S&P CNX NIFTY were subdued on Wednesday´s trading. BSE Sensex closed at 10044.82, down by 37.46 points. Sensex hit an intraday high of 10083.53 and low of 9958.55. Sensex never touched or crossed its all-time high hit on Tuesday.

Out of 30 stocks in Sensex, 12 were gainers and 18 were losers. Cipla was the top gainer in Sensex with the stock closing up by 8.08% at Rs.552.85. The stock is hitting new highs after the announcement of board meeting for bonus issue.

NTPC was the second major gainer in Sensex with the stock up by 2.17% at Rs.122.2. Hero Honda, Maruti, Infosys Technologies, Tata Power and Bajaj Auto closed higher by more than 1% during the day´s trading.

NIFTY closed at 3008.95, down by 11.15 points. NIFTY hit an intraday high of 3021.25 and low of 2984.9. Out of 50 stocks in NIFTY, 31 stocks were losers and 19 stocks closed higher.

Cipla was the major gainer in NIFTY also with the stock zooming by 7.9% to Rs.551.7. Tata Tea was the second major gainer with the stock closing up by 2.68% at Rs.929.15.

NALCO, Maruti, Hero Honda, Dabur India, Bajaj Auto, HCL Technologies, Infosys Technologies, Reliance Energy closed higher by more than 1%. Tata Steel was the major loser in NIFTY with the stock losing 4.04% to Rs.392.25.

L&T was the second major loser with the stock losing 3.17% to close at Rs.2204.3. SAIL, BPCL, WIPRO, MTNL, Dr Reddys Laboratories, GAIL, Zee Tele lost more than 2% during the day.

SCI, Tata Motors, M&M, Hindalco, ICICI Bank, Jet Airways, VSNL, HDFC Bank, ITC closed lower by more than 1%.
