Visvesvaraya Technological University Vice-Chancellor awarded "Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science"

Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy, Vice Chancellor of VTU, an outstanding educationist has been awarded the honor of Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science- a global body of esteemed honorees who have made significant contributions to the world through their promotion of productivity. The selection was announced by Dr. Thomas C. Tuttle, President, World Academy of Productivity Science, Canada on 15th August 2006.

As a new Fellow, Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy has joined a distinguished group of people who have committed significant portions of their lives to helping to raise the living standards of people across the globe through productivity enhancement and will have the obligation to continue this commitment to his work.

Dr. K. Balaveera Reddy was born in 1941, earned his Post-graduation from IIT, Khargpur and Doctorate from IIT, Madras. Later he proved his worth as an ideal teacher in Regional Engineering College, Suratkal. Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy has maintained record of accomplishments in the research fields such as Design of Machine Elements, Design and Drawing, Vibrations, Reliability and Machinery Diagnostics, Torsional Vibrations, Gears & Gear Shafts, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Microprocessors and Machine Tools. and proved his administrative capability through a compassionate style of administration as the Director of the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore.

Dr. Reddy has been associated with several national and international administrative bodies in various capabilities such as Board of Governors of IIT, Bombay., Member of Board of Governors, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal., Member of Court, IISc, Bangalore., Chairman, Common Entrance Test Committee of Govt of Karnataka, Member of Board of IT Education Standards (BITES), Govt. of Karnataka, Bangalore., Member of South-West Region, AICTE, Bangalore., Member of National Executive Council of Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi. Presently, Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy is the Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

Within the first two years of taking over as the Vice Chancellor, VTU Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy established a sprawling 115 acres new campus for VTU at Mache, Belgaum and he is the architect of the ‘VTU e-Campus’ for the first time in the country. Under his able leadership, VTU joined the galaxy of reputed research Institutes such as IIMs, IISc and IITs etc. by promoting research in big way roping in the industries and R&D Labs also for collaboration. He has set a mission for itself to infuse sense of vitality and usefulness among its students.

Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy gifted with an outstanding vision to set off a new wave of change in the field of country’s technical education system. Companies such as IBM India Ltd, INTEL Asia Electronics INC, Microsoft, Ingersoll-Rand India Ltd, Diamant Metaplastic GmbH, United Telecom Ltd (UTL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Uni-Graphic Solutions (UGS), National Instruments (NI), Sun Micro System, International Institute of Productivity Science and Management (IIPSM), Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Environment and Management (STEM), Indian Semiconductor Association, VLSI Society of India, Bosch Rexroth, Germany and Honeywell Technologies Pvt Ltd., Bangalore have joined their hands with VTU to carry out programmes in the areas of faculty development, curriculum development, technology exchange, providing learning and training packages and various other challenging development programmes.

He is actively involved in addressing the rural problems, through Village Adoption Scheme, has taken important steps through the use of technology and participatory planning and management of resources. Through VTU’s Village Adoption Scheme, set up in 2004, the university has adopted a small nearby village and carried out successful projects for providing drinking water, job-oriented training programmes for unemployed, school dropout youths. He is also educated the youths on eco-friendly self-employment options and marketing. His main focus has always been to speard the benefits technology, specially among the rural and needy sections of the society.

Prof. K. Balaveera Reddy has received many prestigious awards, the prominent among them include HONORARY FELLOWSHIP of Indian Institution of Production Engineers (2006), HONORARY FELLOWSHIP of Indian Society for Technical Education (1STE) (2003), Aryabhatta Award (2002), Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award (1999), International Suvarna Parishara Rathna (1998), Sir M. Visvesvaraya Technical Award and Best Teacher Award (1994 -95).
