              Presenting the Railway Budget for the year 2010-11 in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee announced introduction of 46 short distance trains in different parts of the country. Stating that a large volume of Rail travel consists of short distance traffic and utilizes conventional passenger trains, MEMUs and DEMUs, the new trains have been introduced to address this segment.
The following 28 passenger trains are proposed to be introduced during the year 2010-11:
1. Chittaranjan-Kolkata Passenger
2. Sealdah-Krishnanagar Passenger
3. Haldibari-New Jalpaiguri-Siliguri Passenger
4. Balaghat-Katangi Passenger
5. Tatanagar-Hatia Passenger via Chandil-Purulia-Muri
6. Miraj-Parli Passenger
7. Miraj-Pandharpur Passenger
8. Jhansi-Banda Passenger
9. New Jalpaiguri-Dinahat-Bamanhat Passenger
10. Nilambur Road-Shoranur Passenger
11. Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli Passenger
12. Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur Passenger
13. Bhubaneswar-Khurda Raod Passenger
14. Bangalore-Neelamangala Passenger
15. Bagalkot-Gadag Passenger
16. Kozhikode-Kannur Passenger
17. Dharmangar- Manu Passenger
18. Patna-Sasaram via Ara Passenger (to be extended to Bhabua Road upon development of terminal facilities)

The Railway Minister said that on gauge conversion of the Aluabari-Siliguri section, a ring-rail type service between Aluabari, Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri would be introduced. The other DEMU Services proposed to be introduced are as follows:
1. Kacheguda-Mahboobnagar
2. Kacheguda-Miryalguda
3. Qazigund-Baramulla
4. Krishnanagar-Farakka
5. Malda Town-Coochbehar
6. Malda Town – Balurghat
7. Bakhtiyarpur-Gaya
8. Hoshiarpur – Amritsar
