The Indian batsmen VVS Laxman and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni piled on the runs, pushing the South Africans on to the backfoot in the second test match being played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
India resumed the third day at 342-5 with Laxman and nightwatchman Amit Mishra. Amit Mishra scored runs briskly before dismissed by Morne Morkel for 28. Jacques Kallis took a sharp catch and made up for the missed chance earlier.
Captain Dhoni joined Laxman and the duo were unbeaten till India declared their first innings at 643/6. Laxman was unbeaten on 143 from 260 deliveries and Dhoni was unbeaten on 132 from 187 deliveries.
India have 347 runs lead, which the South Africans have to negotiate to make India bat again in this match.
India was helped by Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar on the second day of the test match with both scoring centuries at a brisk space. The duo set the pace for Indian onslaught which South Africans could never recover from. There was a blip when 3 wickets fell in quick succession during the last session of second day. But, Laxman and Dhoni ensured they pile on the runs to add to the Proteas agony.
