Mr. B Sairam new Coal India Chief

Mr. B Sairam took over as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited (CIL) effective 15 December 2025. He succeeds Mr. Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, who held the interim charge as Chairman, from 1 November 2025, after the superannuation of Mr. P M Prasad on 31 October.

Mr. Sairam headed Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) as its CMD, a coal producing subsidiary of CIL, prior to assuming the top chair of the public sector Maharatna coal mining behemoth.

Mr. Sairam said, "Increased coal production and improved quality coal supplies remains our core functional area in meeting the energy demand of the country. But aligning with the changing business scenario and energy sector dynamics we are also actively foraying into solar power, critical mineral acquisitions and coal gasification. The company is also committed to sustainable mining practices".

A coal mining veteran of three and half decades, Mr. Sairam graduated in mining engineering from National Institute of Technology, Raipur. He also holds MBA degree in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business.

His experience spans across coal mine operations, planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. Prior to taking over as CMD, NCL he was Director (Technical) in Central Coalfields Limited another coal producing arm of CIL.

Shares of Coal India Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 381.70 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 384.45. The total number of shares traded during the day was 814943 in over 7616 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 383.55 and intraday low of 378.50. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 310016444.00.
