Krishna Defence Featured in Hurun List of India's Most Valuable Family Businesses

India's defence sector is steadily emerging as one of the fastest-growing pillars of the economy, driven by the twin forces of Atmanirbharta and rising global demand for indigenous capabilities. Reflecting this momentum, Krishna Defence and Allied Industries Limited (KDAIL) has been named to the 2025 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses List. The list, which features India's top 300 family-led enterprises, is regarded as a benchmark of scale, legacy, and wealth creation in the country.

Traditionally dominated by legacy names in FMCG, pharma, and metals, the list this year has opened its doors wider to first- and second-generation entrepreneurs driving value in strategic sectors. The presence of a defence manufacturer like Krishna Defence highlights how India's push for self-reliance in defence is creating new wealth creators and shifting the balance of industries represented at the top.

"Being part of this year's Hurun list is a recognition for our family, company and for India's defence industry," said Ankur Shah, Chairman & Managing Director, Krishna Defence and Allied Industries Limited (KDAIL). "It acknowledges the role of new-age, family-led enterprises in shaping the country's security, economy, and industrial future. As we scale further, our commitment is to innovate responsibly and strengthen India's strategic backbone."

The Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses List, compiled by Barclays Private Clients and Hurun Research Institute, revealed that the top 300 family businesses control USD 1.6 trillion in value and employ over two million people. The threshold to enter this year's list rose sharply to INR 1,100 crore, underlining the financial heft needed for inclusion.

For India's defence manufacturing ecosystem, the 2025 Hurun recognition comes at a time when the sector is undergoing a major transformation. With the Government of India targeting a USD 25 billion defence manufacturing industry by 2025, including USD 5 billion in exports, the spotlight is firmly on private enterprises that are driving indigenisation, R&D, and global competitiveness. The space is witnessing the rise of specialised companies that are contributing to both national security and economic value creation. This shift reflects how defence is not only a strategic necessity, but also a high-growth industry shaping India's global industrial footprint.

Founded and run by the Shah family, Krishna Defence has steadily carved its space by balancing entrepreneurial agility with the discipline of a listed company. Its entry into the Hurun list not only validates its own journey but also showcases the larger opportunity for defence manufacturers to be recognised among India's most valuable family-led businesses.
