SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant's 114 bedded Covid Care Unit dedicated to the nation by Hon'ble Steel Minister

Hon'ble Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the 114 bedded covid care unit at SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant today on 10th June, 2021 through online inauguration program. Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, Hon'ble Minister of State for Steel, Shri T.S. Singh Deo, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of Chattisgarh, Shri Mohammad Akbar, Minister of Transport, Housing, Environment, Forest and Law, Government of Chattisgarh, Ms. Saroj Pandey, MP, Rajya Sabha, Shri Vijay Baghel, MP, Lok Sabha, Durg and Shri Devendra Yadav, MLA, Bhilai, Shri PK Tripathi, Secretary, Steel and Smt. Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL along with senior officers from Ministry of Steel and SAIL also joined the virtual program.

This 114 bedded Covid Care Unit, which has been set-up close to the steel plant has the facility of direct gaseous oxygen supply from the plant through a dedicated gas pipeline. The beds will be soon scaled up to 500 beds in the facility. This unit has the facility of double oxygen backup supply. Apart from gaseous oxygen as the main source, there is also provision of back-up of stored Liquid Medical Oxygen & vaporizer and Oxygen cylinder manifold. This unit is equipped to take care of the mild to moderate covid infection cases. Bhilai's facility is the fourth Covid Care Unit which has been set up by SAIL under company's plan to set up jumbo covid care units with 2500 additional covid beds having direct gaseous oxygen facilities at five plant locations for treatment of covid-19 patients.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan during the program said that Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the mantra of "Jahan Bimaar, Wahi Upchaar" and setting up hospitals near the source of gaseous oxygen and today's inauguration is another step towards that vision. He lauded the role of Bhilai Steel Plant during COVID times. Shri Pradhan said that its hospital has played an important role in treating patients during the second wave of the COVID-19 and also played an important role in supplying liquid medical oxygen in the country and meeting the surge in demand of LMO. The second wave of Covid-19 led to a sudden and sharp surge in Oxygen demand. The load was managed by taking several steps, and the Steel sector played the prime role in this. The steel plants rose to the occasion and met the nation's requirement. SAIL has been a major contributor to the entire efforts being undertaken to fight the covid-19 pandemic.

About vaccination, Shri Pradhan said that Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has laid down the roadmap for vaccination. Shri Pradhan assured that the Government of India and SAIL stands by Chhattisgarh and will do everything possible to maximise vaccination for the people of the state. The minister also assured that learning from the recent experience, the COVID Care Facility in BSP will be ready for any future surge. It will continue to function as long as the need is felt.

Shares of STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA LTD. was last trading in BSE at Rs.128.55 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 124.45. The total number of shares traded during the day was 3933540 in over 14795 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 129.5 and intraday low of 126.05. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 500667766.
