Sankara Eye Hospital, one of the premier eye hospitals in the country dedicated towards eliminating needless blindness launched 'Sign4Sight - Year of Million Miracles', a campaign that will run across all units of Sankara for a year, pursuing and motivating people to pledge their eyes for donation. The campaign commenced on August 25th 2015 with the beginning of Eye Donation Fortnight. The hospital aims to get about a million people to sign up on their website to donate eyes and by approaching the visitors at the hospital.
There are about 2.5 million Indians who need vision. A world without vision is a grim prospect. By donating your eyes, you can enlighten the life of two blind persons. Corneal diseases are the major cause of visual impairment and blindness in a developing country. In a country like India, with the high prevalence of blindness, there is a huge burden for corneal requirement. The number of corneal transplants done is much less than the actual requirement due to the insufficient number of corneas collected. One can make the difference by being a sight ambassador and creating awareness & motivating the families of the bereaved to donate.
Sankara urges people to spread the message and give them the right to sight. The campaign is supported by Young Indians and Rotary Club of Bangalore.
A new page is launched on Sankara's website where the pledging forms are available online. This page will be live from 25th August till one year. The details are as follows: www.sankaraeye.com/Sign4sight.aspx
