Volats shares in MEP sub-contract for Burj Tower - 'word's tallest built structure

"Voltas, a Tata Group enterprise and India's largest exporter of electro-mechanical projects, is part of the international JV undertaking the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health) for currently the world's tallest high-rise building - Dubai's Burj Tower.

Presently, under construction, the Burj Tower has already exceeded the height of the Taipei 101, the previous holder of this record. The Burj Tower stood at 512.1 metres (1,680.1 ft) as on July 21, 2007, while the Taipei 101 is at 509.2 metres (1,671 ft)

When fully completed, the Burj Tower is expected to attain an even loftier distinction - the world's tallest free-standing structure, as well as the tallest land- based structure to have ever been built.

The Burj Tower development is undertaken by EMAAR Properties, Dubai one of the largest, reputed and professional Property Development Company in the world Samsung Corporation, Besix Belgium and Arabtech, UAE, JV are the main civil contractors. The MEP sub-contract, valued at approximately Rs 1000 crores, is being expected by Voltas in a JV with Emirates Trading Agency (Dubai) and Hitachi Plant Engin & Construction Company (Singapore)

The scope of MEP works covers:

Mechanical: Complete HVAC Systems on the low side including air handling and fan coil units, heat exchangers, pumps and air distribution to the Tower building.

Electrical: Complete electrical systems including incoming power service, 11 KV transformers, standby generators, auto transfer switches, power distribution switchgear, Motor Control centres, distribution boards, containment and cabling.

Specialist ELV Systems: Security, fire alarm guard tour, PA system, building intercom, emergency lighting, BMS and CCTV.

Plumbing: Drainage, waste and vent systems including the necessary piping and distribution, fire fighting systems such as sprinkler and FM 200 protection and LPG systems including storage tanks and distribution.

For the Company, the Burj Tower will be one of the proudest accomplishments in a three-decades record of project work in 31 countries overseas, including numerous projects of notable size, scope and prestige, such as the Emirates Mall, the worlds biggest mall beyond North America, Hong Kong airport, Emirates Palace Hotel to name a few.

The Burj Tower also showcases the comprehensive range of MEP capabilities, which Voltas now offers in the domestic market, attractive to a number of segments in construction and infrastructure."
