Kirloskar Oil enters into Technology License Agreement with Waukesha Engines

Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd has announced that the Company has entered into a Technology Licence Agreement with Waukesha Engines, a business unit of Dresser Inc. USA for the manufacture and world-wide sale of diesel engines based generating sets.

Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd has announced that the Company has now entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Waukesha Engine, a business of Dresser Inc., USA for the manufacture, sales and service worldwide of diesel engines for generating sets in range 2.4 to 3.6 MW. The license agreement also includes a future option for the Company to build, package and sell and service in India gas-fuelled generating sets in 2.4 to 3.6 MW range.

Mr. L A Joshi, Executive Vice President of the Company said, "The generating sets from this alliance with Waukesha will be introduced in the market in 18 to 24 months."

In addition to the above, the alliance will provide the Company the opportunity to manufacture and supply components and assemblies to Waukesha for their manufacture of gas engines in the US.

Today, the Company does manufacture engines in the range of 1.5 MW to 5.6 MW. These run at speeds of 1000 on diesel and 750 rpm on heavy fuel oil. With the addition to the range of the generating sets out of the alliance with Waukesha, Kirloskar will also offer diesel generating sets at competitive price point as these run at 1500 rpm instead of 1000 rpm sets from the present range.

The gas-fuelled generating sets in range 2.4 to 3.6 MW is an addition to Kirloskar Green range of generating sets.

The global market for diesel generating sets in 2.4 to 3.6 MW is about 800 engines in 2007 while the Indian market for gas-fuelled generating sets in 2.4 to 3.6 MW is about 45 engines. Both the markets are expected to double in 3 to 5 years.

Mr. Atul Kirloskar said, "With the addition of 1500 rpm high output diesel and gas-fuelled gensets, Kirloskar's position in the genset market strengthens significantly, and the rights to sell the diesel generating sets globally supplements our global strategy."
