Chennai Reservoirs have storage of 1991 Mcft

The reservoirs that are catering to the daily supply of drinking water to the Chennai city have got increased inflow due to the sustained rains for the last few days. The reservoirs that supply water to Chennai are Poondi, Cholavaram, Redhills and Chembarambakkam.

The Chembarambakkam lake is the biggest beneficiary of the rains in the last few days. The lake has been getting inflows of more than 700 cusecs for the last 2 days. The lake was getting an inflow of 746 cusecs as of October 19, 2014 morning. The storage at the lake was 956 Mcft against the storage of 593 Mcft on the same day of last year. The lake has water till 72.90 ft against the full tank level of 85.40 ft and full capacity of 3645 Mcft. Chembarambakkam received rainfall of 64 mm. The outflow from Chembarambakkam was at 86 cusecs.

The Poondi reservoir has been receiving 867 cusecs of inflow as of October 19, 2014 morning. The storage at the lake was 185 Mcft against the storage of 188 Mcft on the same day of last year. The lake has water till 124.60 ft against the full tank level of 140 ft and full capacity of 3231 Mcft. Poondi received rainfall of 36.6 mm. The outflow from Poondi reservoir was at 133 cusecs.

The Cholavaram reservoir has not been receiving any inflow as of October 19, 2014 morning. The storage at the lake was 46.64 ft against the storage of 55 ft on the same day of last year. The full tank level is 64.50 ft and full capacity is 881 Mcft. Cholavaram received rainfall of 49 mm.

The Red Hills reservoir has been receiving 378 cusecs of inflow as of October 19, 2014 morning. The storage at the lake was 850 Mcft against the storage of 1117 Mcft on the same day of last year. The lake has water till 35.72 ft against the full tank level of 50.20 ft and full capacity of 3300 Mcft. Red Hills received rainfall of 48 mm. The outflow from Red Hills was at 135 cusecs.

The total capacity of various reservoirs were at 1991 Mcft as of October 19, 2014 as against 1953 Mcft on the same day of the last year. The full capacity of all these reservoirs are 11057 Mcft.
