Unisys India announced the opening of the Unisys Innovation Labs (UIL). The lab will provide engineering students across the country with a means to refine their technical knowledge and marketable skills.
Located at the Unisys facilities in SJR iPark, Whitefield, Bangalore, the lab will be fully operational beginning in April 2013.
UIL will enable engineering students and faculty across India to work on real-world problems in real time. It will expose them to the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of high-performance applications and modernisation programs that capitalize on the latest IT trends, such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), model-driven development, mobility and cloud computing.
UIL will also offer participants the unique opportunity to work with advanced Unisys technologies, including the ClearPath MCP and OS 2200 operating environments, the ClearPath ePortal mobile application development capability, Business Information Server (BIS) and the Agile Business (AB) Suite rapid application development environments based on SOA and model-driven development, among others. That work will enable the students to apply the technologies to realize innovative ideas and concepts. UIL will also provide remote access to its technologies, so that students from any part of the country will be able to access and leverage these resources, regardless of physical location.
"Unisys' long history of collaborating with the academic community to drive innovation and R&D goes back to 1946, when the founders of the modern company developed the "Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer" (ENIAC), the world's first large-scale, general-purpose digital computer, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania. Continuing that collaborative tradition with UIL, we seek to harness the immense talent we have in India and impart industry-ready skills to the next generation of engineers so they can play an active role in shaping tomorrow's technologies," said Kumar Prabhas, Managing Director, Unisys India.
Under the guidance of Unisys engineers, students will receive hands-on experience in professional development, teamwork and project management, leadership, analytical and critical thinking, and technical writing and communications to prepare them for successful careers in today's rapidly evolving IT industry.
UIL will give students and faculty access to a wide range of resources, including training material, classroom sessions, technical webinars and workshops, and will enable them to participate in multiple Unisys certification programs. Participants will also have an opportunity to participate in various student technical contests, such as Unisys' Cloud 20/20 technical project competition, as well as Unisys-conducted internship programs. Teaching staff can leverage the UIL to develop curricula in line with the current trends and needs of the IT industry.
Registrations are ongoing for students and faculty of accredited institutions who want to pursue innovative, high caliber research. For further information on the UIL program and registration details, please visit http://utfi.co.in/file.php/1/UIL/html/UIL.html
