The Canadian International School, Bangalore held its 2nd Green Conference at its campus which brought together 14 young environmentalists from 7 schools across Bangalore. The students spoke about the enormous environmental challenges and probable solutions which can be adopted and implemented by citizens, NGO's, environmentalists and world governments. Some of the topics which were presented and researched were saving the Arctic, protecting the tiger, effective waste management in metropolitan cities, protection of eco systems, promoting recycling initiatives in urban settlements and the challenges of genetically modified food.
The former director of Greenpeace India, Mr. Chandy Abraham was the Guest Speaker. He urged the students to analyze the causes of environmental degradation and treat the nature with utmost respect. He emphasized the need for protecting the animal kingdom and the critically endangered species. Delegates also interacted and questioned professionally about the various strategies and policies of environmental conservation followed in different parts of the world.
All the delegates of the participating schools (TISB, Vidyashilp, Legacy, Trio, DPS, Presidency school) along with the hosts Canadian International School joined hands to create a Rose garden consisting of 37 roses which symbolizes the 37 nationalities of CIS. Mr. Shane Kells, Head of School, CIS stressed the importance of sustainable development and the importance of recycling in daily life.

The CIS Green Idea organized a Tetra pack bag sale which evoked a good response as the colour and texture of the tetra packs neatly crafted into bags are beautiful environmental products of daily use especially for shopping. . Recycling of waste paper and newspapers is an ongoing, year round activity. CIS is also proud to support paperless communication wherever possible.
'The Green conference has come to an end but the green cause and initiative will continue as our planet was greener than it is now" said a sixth grader.
"As a school, we strive to find new ways to stay ahead of the curve with our green initiatives. Our students have a lot to be proud of with regard to green initiatives they have taken on and off campus. All human beings have a responsibility towards protecting the environment. Our students are leading by example", addsMs. Shweta Sastri, Executive Director – Canadian International School, Bangalore.
