              The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the financial year 2006-07 were Rs. 62484.02 crore compared to Rs. 53644.74 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.48 per cent. The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 36302.39 during fiscal 2005-06 to Rs. 42074.90 crore during 2006-07, an increase of 15.90 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April’06 - March’07 were Rs. 17230.53 crore compared to Rs. 15398.56 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.90 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1737.36 crore during April’06- March’07 compared to Rs. 1223.04 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 42.05 per cent. The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs. 720.75 crore during April’05 - March’06 to Rs. 1441.23 crore during April’06 - March’07, an increase of 99.96 percent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the financial year 2006-07 were 6352.07 million compared to 5932.10 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.08 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April’06 - Marh’07 were 3517.61 million and 2834.46 million compared to 3331.89 million and 2600.21 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.57 per cent and 9.01 per cent respectively.
