ABB has launched a range of products including a new age, digitally enabled circuit breaker, AFS contactors and a range of modern light switches for industry, panel builders, OEMs and building architects in Coimbatore. This launch comes at a time when the region, known as one of the traditional industrial clusters, is transforming many of its industries with energy management and clean technology solutions.
The advantages common to the three diverse products launched today include reliability, energy efficiency and digitally enabled control and monitoring through ABB AbilityTM, the company's unified, cross-industry digital offering. All products also benefit from self-diagnostics, ease of installation and safety, not to forget desired aesthetics for varied segments.
Designed for machine safety applications, AFS contactors are ideal for monitoring and controlling electrical circuits. The role of contactors are crucial in any power circuit as they make or break the power supply lines connected to electrical loads like electric motors, lighting, heating, capacitor banks, thermal evaporators, and other similar devices.
Mechanically linked and mirror contacts along with the device's near instantaneous response time help make systems safer. When a fault is detected, opening times are less than 30 minutes for selected variants, enabling designs with significantly shorter safety distances.
Meanwhile, the power consumption of the contactor coil can be reduced by up to 60 percent, enabling more compact transformers and panels. ABB's AFS contactors can also be controlled directly by safety PLCs or safety relays. The low energy auxiliary contacts feature a minimum switching capacity (12V / 3 mA) and guarantee system status feedback, enhancing reliability. The ease of installation without compromising on safety levels is brought about by the push-in spring connector. Finally, the wiring time is halved as ferruled and rigid cables can both be inserted without the need to use additional tools.
IVIE modular switches
Manufactured in India for India, the innovative switches offer a range of functionalities, from basic switching to controlling, comfort and energy savings. This makes them ideal for use in high end residential, commercial and hotel sectors. The IVIE switch range also provides additional functionality when integrated with ABBfree@home® home automation system, transforming residential buildings into smart homes. With the installer in mind, IVIE uses a grid system that allows the integration of a combination of colors and products of different dimensions and functionalities, together with ABB-free@home® sensors, making it easier to install.
Emax 2 all-in-one is the first circuit breaker that provides advanced protection, programmable logic, full connectivity including with ABB AbilityTM digital offerings platform, easy integration and comprehensive microgrid energy management - all in one extraordinary device. Emax 2 is not only a circuit breaker with two complete sets of protection for power distribution and generation, but also a plant controller that guarantees coordination in both on-grid or off-grid situations. With patented embedded software, Emax 2 learns the power system's behavior and adapts the plant load and generation configuration to electrical grid changes. This small and feature-rich power circuit breaker results in space savings of about 25 percent and a reduction in assembly time by 10 percent with network analysis and preventive diagnostics powered by cloud connectivity for any installation.
"Managing and efficiently controlling the power supply supporting various industry requirements is key to bringing about the next level of growth in manufacturing. We are proud to launch three next generation technology solutions in Coimbatore, one of our country's oldest industrial clusters," said CP Vyas, President, Electrification Products, ABB India. "These will cater to varied segments from OEMs to industry panel builders and architects in a region famous for its entrepreneurial acumen, increasing convenience of operations, safety, and reliability while bringing down costs of energy. ABB is proud to collaborate with these companies in the age of digital and technological transformation," he added.
