Ratings major ICRA has launched a skill development programme aimed at providing social welfare to rural disadvantaged communities in West Bengal, in partnership with Anudip Foundation. Under this initiative, 120 students in the age group of 18 to 25 years from four centres of Anudip in West Bengal will undergo skills development training starting December 11, 2015.
A large number of people residing in these centres are dependent on traditional occupations like farming and embroidery for their livelihood. Youth unemployment in the region is very high. Keeping this in mind, ICRA aims to provide an alternative new economy job opportunities to disadvantaged groups from the region, said Mr Naresh Takkar, MD & Group CEO, ICRA Ltd.
The soft skills development programme includes in-depth training in IT skills, workplace English, workplace readiness and mock interviews. On completition of the programme, students will be provided with job placement avenues across formal sectors. Anudip has so far averaged 80% success in securing job opportunities for its students.
For this training programme, Anudip will enlist youth who are class 12 passouts, and from marginalized and disadvantaged communities. The Market Aligned Skills Training (MAST), a full-time course, is focused on developing the beneficiary's job skills need, through a job-market aligned curriculum, and developed and customized as per employers' requirements.
A crucial problem in India is the lack of viable employment opportunities for India's poor, given the limited access to vocational training and education. Rural youth are vulnerable due to the lack of reasonable, let alone quality, education and training that could help them develop the skills, necessary to join the workforce and become productive members of society.
