NCR introduces its suite of next-generation technologies to retail businesses in India

Industry-leading NCR self-service and assisted-service solutions help retailers operate more efficiently, increase revenues and enhance customer satisfaction

Chennai, India - NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) - already a leader in India's financial services technology space - today announced the launch of its globally recognized suite of self-service and assisted-service technology solutions to help India's retailers meet today's growing business pressures and thrive in a new world of retail interactions.

NCR's industry-leading self-service kiosk solutions help consumers complete transactions quickly and simply, transforming the way that staff and customers work together. NCR also offers the industry's broadest portfolio of assisted-service solutions for the point of sale (POS). These solutions include POS workstations to fit virtually in any retail or food service operation, along with a wide selection of bar code scanners, thermal receipt printers and other POS peripheral devices.

According to the IDC India Annual POS Market Study for 2008, over 250 large size shopping malls are currently under construction in India, but only 3 to 4 percent of the organized retail market currently uses full-function POS solutions. According to the IDC study, the main drivers for Indian retail are high-income opportunities, changing attitudes, international exposure, necessities to lifestyles and changing markets and government policies.

Commenting on the launch of its comprehensive range of solutions for the retail segment, Navroze Dastur, NCR general manager for Channels in India, stated, "NCR's mission is to enable the Indian general retail segment to respond faster to customer needs with solutions that enhance customer interactions, relationships and satisfaction. With 34 of the top 50 global retailers depending on NCR solutions, Indian retailers are sure to benefit from the wide portfolio of NCR retail technologies to meet rising expectations of today's consumers for more speed, control and convenience."

Some of the key solutions NCR is introducing in India include its suite of POS workstations, including the NCR RealPOS™ 21, NCR RealPOS™ 30, NCR RealPOS 70XRT and NCR RealPOS 80XRT; all designed to reduce total cost of ownership, enhance productivity and improve the customer experience.

In addition, the Indian retail industry for the first time will be experiencing NCR's world-leading patented two-sided thermal receipt printing technology (2ST™). This allows printing on both sides of the paper thereby reducing receipt paper usage by up to 45 percent. This technology not only helps retailers address their environmental objectives, but also provides shoppers with shorter, more manageable receipts, faster print times and fewer stoppages for receipt roll changes thus leading to increased customer satisfaction.

NCR also is introducing Indian businesses to the NCR SelfServ™ line of multifunction self-service kiosks that enable a wide range of applications from order placement to bill payment, promotional information, gift registry and more. NCR's durable self-service technology provides an exceptional customer experience and includes kiosks can be installed virtually anywhere needed for maximum impact: a tabletop, shelf, pole, wall or pedestal.

A recent study*, conducted by BuzzBack Market Research on behalf of NCR, indicates that 93 percent of Indian respondents are more likely to shop with a retailer that gives them flexibility to interact easily via online, mobile and kiosk self-service channels. Eighty-one percent of respondents have increased their likelihood to use self-service in the past year. Significantly, 80 percent of survey respondents from India say that the availability of self-service technologies creates a more positive perception of the deployer's brands.

Dastur added: "These research findings confirm that self-service is a growing phenomenon in India, driven by consumers who are looking for greater speed, convenience and flexibility in managing their interactions with companies. NCR's retail self-service solutions are designed to help companies interact, transact, and connect with customers in revolutionary new ways. NCR India is dedicated to bringing global solutions to the Indian retail market to help retailers transform their businesses and improve customer experience."

NCR is a leading player in the Indian petroleum retail business - providing petrol station automation for the country's leading oil companies including Bharat Petroleum Company Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Company Limited (HPCL). To date, NCR has automated over 150 petrol stations for BPCL and 534 petrol stations for HPCL.

*NCR commissioned BuzzBack Market Research to conduct this survey among 8447 respondents across 16 markets and 6 regions in December 2008. The results form part of the NCR's 2009 Self-Service consumer survey. BuzzBack LLC is a leading international market research firm headquartered in New York City.
