Hydrokinetic energy (HKE) - an emerging new portfolio in renewable is having a distinction of beingthe only base load renewable energy supply. Unpredictability of present Indian renewable energy dominated by a mix of Solar & Wind power due to weather dependence calls for development of base load renewable energy resources in immediate future.A fair percentage of Hydrokinetic energy in the overall mix offers a formidable solution to make a qualitative impact.
IMP Powers, India ventured into this energy segment last year with a license for technology transfer from Smart Hydro Power (SHP), Germany. IMP has made rapid strides & been successful in transferring the concept from Lab to Land in India. From the stage of demonstrating micro hydrokinetic projects, targeting andrecovering unclaimed kinetic energy from flows in Canals of thermal power plants to tail races of existing hydro power plants. After successfully commissioning its 1 st 4x5 KW pilot project at NLC Neyveli last year, the company has reached a milestone. IMP Powers is the ONLY company in the world, which has SUCCESSFULLY implemented commercially, a micro hydro kinetic plant & injected 1 LAC UNITS IN THE NATIONAL GRIDin 11 months of its operation.
Aaditya Dhoot, Managing Director (IMP Powers, India) says, "This will open new vistas and change the dynamics of small/mini hydroelectric projects in the country. We are geared to scale this up multi-fold in the next 2years. Incidentally our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi saw this technology in 2015 in Hannover, Germany & IMP Powers took the initiative to MAKE IT IN INDIA"!
IMP has received the LOA for establishing first Utility scale grid interactive mini hydropower plant on Built Operate & Own (BOO) basis in world. In a tariff-based bidding a 200KW small hydrokinetic project - "Teona" on Bhatinda branch canal in Punjab has been awarded to company by PEDA for implementation at a tariff of Rs. 4.95/kWhr for project. Canal being perennial will yield PLF >80% This project will be implemented through the hydrokinetic turbines being manufactured at our plant in Silvassa.
