Mahindra launches MPOWER to train young transport entrepreneurs at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

After having launched and running the second edition of the unique awards program for the transport ecosystem, Mahindra has announced the launch of yet another pioneering initiative, this time for young transport entrepreneurs.

MPOWER, a 14 days management development program specially crafted as per the needs of young transport entrepreneurs with IIM - Ahmedabad as the Knowledge Partner is aimed at professionalizing the Indian Trucking Industry through this learning initiative for young transport entrepreneurs.

Last Year, Mahindra had taken the first step in the direction of encouraging the youth to take on the path of excellence by instituting the Youth Transport Personality Award. And this year Mahindra had gone a step ahead to encourage the Youth Transporter to take on their "Papa Ka Business". Speaking at the Awards ceremony last year, Mr. Anand Mahindra had exhorted the nextgen of transporters to "Take forward, their family business with their OWN vision".

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nalin Mehta, CEO & Managing Director, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Limited, said, "Mahindra has resolved to be the change agent in the Indian commercial vehicle industry. To bring about this kind of revolution we have to work at various levels. While excellent products an strong network and service backup are essential, it is also necessary to bring about a change through thought leadership which has led Mahindra to launch initiatives like the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards and Outperformers' League, the transport forum. In keeping with this philosophy, we have now taken this concrete step by developing a unique management development programme that will transform the way young transport minds view their business - MPOWER. At Mahindra, we call it a RISE initiative for Youth Transport Entrepreneurs, with the main objective of helping to professionalize the Indian Trucking Industry through Management Development Initiatives for the next generation of entrepreneurs."

MPOWER, developed specially by IIM Ahmedabad through the process of co-creation is a pioneering initiative and unique in several ways. The entire course content was developed ground-up through participation of young transporters who shared their concerns and spelled out their knowledge needs for running their existing business through their own vision for the future.

Mr. Nalin Mehta, CEO & Managing Director, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Limited, further added "This is a great opportunity for young transport entrepreneurs to take maximum advantage through this initiative of Mahindra. This is a tool that would help shape their vision for tomorrow's challenges, so that they are empowered to take their business forward with state-of-the-art know how. This program is specially designed by and will be conducted by IIM-Ahmedabad. IIMA has designed the course module for the key stakeholders in the Trucking Ecosystem preparing them for tomorrow. It's a long term sustainable initiative which is in line with Mahindra philosophy."

The MPOWER program is a 14 day course, which started on 23rd January, 2013 and will conclude on 5th February, 2013 with the first batch of 30 Youth Transport Entrepreneur , including field visit, external workshops etc. Mahindra has also organized special Guest lectures by Industry experts to provide better insight of the domain development and current trend for this program.

Mahindra, in its commercial vehicle business of heavy and light commercial vehicles (3.5 to 49 tonne category), has already achieved an important milestone with over 6500 trucks rolled out of Chakan Plant and more than 10 crore kilometers on road! This achievement reflects the ever increasing confidence of the customers in the brand. This also indicates that MNAL trucks are running on multiple applications across India with wide acceptance of customers. Additionally, over 1 lakh LCVs are already plying across India helping load and passenger customers outperform in their businesses. This would not have been possible without the support of the formidable service network of nearly 1200 service points on strategic trucking routes Pan-India that includes 59 unique, large-scale 3S dealerships which are designed to cater to customers differently and that have become landmarks in the Indian CV industry. This has helped Mahindra to be No.1 in the TNS customer Satisfaction. No.1 in LCV trucks & buses and Joint No.1 in HCV multi-axle trucks; all this being a strong endorsement amongst the customers across India in the brand.
