The National level winner of the NIIT MindChampions' Academy (MCA) was felicitated by World Chess Champion and NIIT MindChampion Viswanathan Anand at the grand finale of Chess Master 2012 in Indore. Also present on the occasion were Hemant Sethi, President, School Learning Solutions, NIIT Ltd. and Rajeev Katyal, Country Director, Global Indian International School (GIIS).
Master Sree Govind Ganesh, Class 5 student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kochi, was adjudged as the National level winner of the NIIT MindChampions' Academy - Chess Master 2012.
During the day, Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand launched NIIT MindChampions' Academy at Global Indian International School, Indore.
NIIT MindChampions' Academy (MCA) is a joint initiative by NIIT, a leading Global Talent Development Corporation and Asia's largest IT Trainer, and World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand to initiate young minds into the World of Chess. Since its inception in 2002, MCA has touched over 1.65 million children in more than 17,000 schools across India.
This year MCA has witnessed widespread participation of over 2 Lakh students from 8,000 schools across the country for the Chess Master 2012. The mega Chess tournament was entirely conducted online, inspiring students from metros to the remotest towns across the country, to play the game of Chess online.
The winners from each Zone - South, East, North and West, vied for the coveted Chess Master 2012 title.
Rishi Mittal from Ryan International School, Goregaon, Mumbai, represented the West Zone; Maheswata Kumar from Mangaldai Town Girls H S School, Darrang, Assam, represented the East Zone; the South Zone was represented by Sree Govind Ganesh from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kannamaly, Kochi, Kerala; while Rahul Dhar from KC public school, Jammu, represented the North Zone.
Commenting on the success of MCA, World Chess Champion and NIIT MindChampion Viswanathan Anand remarked, "It is heartening to note that young children are taking up chess enthusiastically and mastering the strategies of the game. I heartily congratulate Sree Govind Ganesh and wish him a bright future ahead."
NIIT MindChampions' Academy encourages students to take up the game of Chess, enabling development of young minds. Studies have established that there is a strong correlation between the game of Chess and academic excellence. It has been proved conclusively that introducing Chess to the classroom environment through MCA Clubs have positively influenced the students by enabling them to experience holistic learning during the school hours.
The phenomenal success of NIIT MindChampions' Academy has reiterated the fact that Chess has been a rewarding experience for students, helping them approach the academic problems in a more tactical and logical manner and improve their analytical skills.
